New tool: Search inside reference books



Search the indexes and article titles from nearly 20,000 online and print reference books (encyclopedias, handbooks, manuals, textbooks, etc.) with Reference Universe!

If the UW-Madison libraries have online access to the e-book, you'll get a direct link. Or, if we have the book in print, you'll get a link to the MadCat library catalog record. For books we don't own, put in a request through Library Express Article & Book Delivery for a scanned PDF copy of the pages you need.

Biotechnology Abstract database: New interface



Biotechnology Abstract moves to OvidSP, from WebSPIRS SilverPlatter

"Derwent Biotechnology Abstract is a Biotechnology Literature and Patents Information Service produced by Derwent Information Ltd. The subject coverage includes all aspects of biotechnology, from genetic manipulation to biochemical engineering and fermentation to downstream processing. All industrial uses of microorganisms, enzymes, and cell culture are covered, as well as plant micropropagation."

"Information is extracted from around 1200 major scientific publications, including primary journals and conference proceedings, and from the patents literature."

Rice database wins award



The Rice Bibliography Database of the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) Library is the winner of the 2009 Oberly Award by the Association of College and Research Libraries.

This online search engine of the world’s scientific and technical rice literature has its roots in "The International Bibliography of Rice Research," first published in 1961 and then supplemented annually. Since 1996, the database has been online, and updated daily.

All publications represented by the database's 267,000+ entries are available in print or electronic format, and made available upon request.

ScienceAccelerator.gov - new & improved search



The Office of Scientific and Technical Information at the U.S. Department of Energy has added new features to ScienceAccelerator.gov, the search engine for 10 key DOE sites.

Customize Your Search

New search and retrieval features and capabilities have been added:

  • automatically spell check your search terms
  • e-mail your search results
  • export results into your citation management software
  • links to EurekAlert! Science News and Wikipedia
  • clusters results by topic and/or by date

Other search and retrieval features include:
